"Show me the money!" 13:33, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Social Capital

They always want to see proof. The terms associated with the contract are volatile, ambiguous, precarious, full of compromise and subject to interpretation - at least to us long-haired misfits of science and art. The new paradigms of social business are opening doors for creative folk that are willing, able and crazy enough to experiment at great risk to their bottom line. Getting the show on the road is difficult and once you get there it's full of peril, darkness and doubt. The proof of the pudding is in it's taste, and the taste of the pudding is in the pudding itself. That's how they reduced the saying to "the proof is in the pudding" which of course it is.

What I'm getting at is that the music makes the money. We make the music. They make the money but only if we let them.

Some context: "...He who letteth will let until he is taken out of the way..." II Thessalonians 2:7

So why is this important? ...or is it? ...to whom? Not me so much as getting the gear I need to do my job. And even more important is the trust I have in the people I associate with. That illusive trust is a very valuable form of social capital as also are intangibles like fan loyalty, musical skill, relational integrity, and other abstract stuff that is too out of reach for them to put stock in.
