on my desktop (main) studio rig, i have an ext4 partitioned HD with my OS on it (ubuntu) and a seperate PATA 7200rpm HD that is ext3 formatted that i track up to 8 channels at 24bit in ardour with excellent results... i have an external firewire HD that is also PATA 7200rpm and is FAT formatted which i use to track live with a macbook running snowleopard, using ardour, doing up to 8 tracks @ 24bit again with excellent results... when i bring the external FAT formatted HD back to my ubuntu box, i copy the ardour session over to the ext3 formatted HD, making my session both ready to be edited using linux, and backed up on 2 seperated HD's
